...Buses
and Bus Tickets |
|
Exploring Costa Rica by bus
is a safe, practical and
economical way to see the country. Costa Rica has a very
efficient bus system with comfortable - late model buses reaching
popular tourist destinations. However, before going into the Coca
Cola area of San Jose to buy bus tickets and board buses travelers
should be aware that in doing so can be a frustrating, time
consuming and, at times, a risky endeavor. |

Explore Costa Rica
2004 'Petty crime can be a problem in the city
(San Jose) day or night - and tourists are the obvious
target. Main trouble areas are around the Coca-Cola bus
terminal...'
The Lonely
Planet 'In recent years thefts from travelers
happen around the Coca Cola...'
The Tico
Times 'Its easy to get lost and not to
hard to get robbed around the Coca-Cola bus terminal and the
'red light district' of San Jose from where many of the
provincial buses leave. Yet visitors who plan to explore the
country by bus need to go there twice - once to buy their
tickets, which often need to be purchased the day before, and
once to catch the bus... |

Ordering your bus tickets through
A Safe Passage and boarding your bus in Alajuela is the
safest, easiest and the most time-saving way to start your
trip. We go into San Jose to purchase your tickets in advance
then have them in Alajuela when you arrive. Then with your ticket in
hand and seat reserved you can board your bus just minutes from the
airport.
|
The New Key to Costa
Rica 'A Safe
Passage is designed to save tourists the trouble (and danger)
of going to San Jose bus terminals in
advance'. |
Note:
San Jose's - Juan Santamaíre International Airport is
actually in Alajuela not San Jose. Costa Rica's capital is
south and east of the airport while most of the country's popular
tourist destinations are north and west. Using Alajuela
as your gateway to adventure is the more efficient way to start your
travels. | |

With your opting
for 'Tickets

you in when you arrive. Then you pick up your tickets in Alajuela
and go to a local bus stop to catch your bus. Alajuela is just

Note:
Flagging down a bus at the Highway Bus Stop can
be tricky. While the bus stop is convenient for north and
westbound travelers the bus stop is also unattended making it is
easy to miss a bus. Those missing their bus may
need to cross the highway, walk to the
airport and take a bus or taxi into San Jose to make other transportation arrangements. On certain routes you will have to wait until
the next day to leave.
'Tickets Only' is not recommended for travelers not familiar with how
to identify and flag down their bus. |

'It was great getting off the plane and
on to the bus. By picking us up at the airport and taking us to the
bank and the market then to the bus you saved us a least a day in
San Jose and we gained another day to surf. I will tell anyone I
know coming to Costa Rica to use your service.' Steve S. - Saskatchewan
